Ghosts of Times Past
All over the west of the United States there are old, abandoned buildings slowly fading into the night of time, progressively collapsing and sometimes disappearing under the weight of time, or heavy snow, or the force of high winds, among other elements. As they go, so does a bit of our history, a bit of our past. This project tries to document some of those places before they are forever gone, but to do it in a visually appealing way. The artificial light placed inside these buildings symbolizes the "ghosts", the souls, of those who once worked or lived inside. It indicates that those structures were once alive and bustling with activity and that, once that activity is no more, they are now going away. In its current stage, the photography of Ghosts of Times Past focuses on sites located in California and Nevada. It includes a variety of places based on their specific activity: mining, ranching, workers housing, and the like.
